Your Tax Dollars Pay For Maryland Mosque Security Upgrades

The Islamic Society of Baltimore (ISB) will be receiving a grant from the Nonprofit Security Grant Program administered through the Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), according to a release penned by the IBS President, Mohammed Abdul Khadeer. The letter states the following:

On behalf of the ISB Council, I would like to congratulate you on our successful application for and receipt of a grant from the Nonprofit Security Grant Program run by Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). Alhumdulillah, ISB will be receiving $74,675.00 which will go towards upgrading, enhancing and adding to our security infrastructure. Over the next several months you will see contractors on-site conducting these security enhancements.

This is not the first time ISB has received federal grant money. In 2012 they reportedly received $72,750.00.

Cultural Jihad pointed out that CAIR has been calling on other Islamic groups to take advantage of this additional revenue stream:

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is urging mosques and Muslim institutions nationwide to consider applying for funds available through the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP).

The program is designed to assist nonprofit organizations that are vulnerable to terrorist attacks with procuring and installing security equipment to enhance safety.

What is your opinion of this program? Should taxpayer dollars be spent on security for Islamic groups?
