Young Man Killed In His Home When Dallas Police Officer Tried To Enter Wrong Apartment

Was the police officer drunk? Was she doing drugs? How impaired was she to try to enter the wrong home and then take her gun and shoot an innocent man?

The victim’s name was Botham Jean, a college graduate, who didn’t know what was waiting for him at the door to his home but quickly found out when the police officer pulled her gun and shot him in cold blood. How in the hell does this happen and what else don’t we know?

I’m just trying to comprehend how this could’ve happened? To be honest and many of you won’t like this statement. This is why black people despise the police. Now, of course, the vast majority of cops are good people, but there are way too many awful ones.

This death was such a senseless tragedy, and we have lost a good man who was an asset to his community and beloved by all who knew him. My heart and sympathies go out to his family, especially his mom. Her statement on the news brought tears to my eyes, to lose a son in such a way.

A Dallas police officer fatally shot a neighbor inside the man’s apartment late Thursday night, claiming that she mistook his apartment for her own and believed he was an intruder, the police said.

After completing her shift on Thursday, the officer went to her apartment building across the street from the Dallas Police Department’s headquarters shortly before 10 p.m. But the officer, who was still in police uniform, did not go to her own unit and instead tried to enter the residence of a neighbor, Botham Shem Jean. She then shot him, the authorities said.

Mr. Jean, 26, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It was not clear how the officer, whose name has not been released, mistook where she lived or why she opened fire.

Chief U. Renee Hall of the Dallas Police Department said that investigators were seeking an arrest warrant to charge the officer with manslaughter. Chief Hall said it became clear in the beginning of the investigation that the case was not a standard officer-involved shooting.

This story is still developing.
