A New York woman allegedly left a $5,000 tip after she finished her meal. Most would think that was extraordinarily nice of her, especially in these days and times but wait until you hear why she did it.
Serina Wolfe took her boyfriend’s credit card, and went to a Florida restaurant, paid her $55.37 breakfast tab and left that considerable tip. One thing was awry with that huge gratuity; the card was stolen. Wolfe was estranged from her boyfriend and wanted revenge.
On Monday, Wolfe was arrested on a felony theft charge and is being held in Pinellas County Jail on a $1,000 bond.
A New York woman upset with her boyfriend left a $5,000 tip on a $55 tab using his credit card. Serina Wolfe, 24, of Buffalo, was charged with grand theft after she put the gratuity on her bill at the Clear Sky Beach Cafe in Clearwater, Fla., police said. Wolfe was upset her boyfriend, Michael Crane, refused to buy her a return plane ticket to New York.
Unfortunately, I would have to say that the restaurant owes the money back. The girlfriend should be arrested and prosecuted for grand theft, but the restaurant accepted a credit card with someone else’s name on it. The restaurant should have questioned the transaction and refused the credit card taking only cash or a credit card in the name of the person making the purchase.
What if this had been a stolen credit card and, when questioned, the girl told them it was her boyfriend’s? Would they have taken her at her word? I don’t like my answer because it will affect the waitress, but if it were my card, I would want the company that honored my card held accountable. All my cards say “see ID” in the signature portion yet I rarely get asked to show my ID.
This would not have happened if the restaurant told her she needed to use a card with her name on it.

It seems to me it would have made more sense to buy that plane ticket when he lifted the “hold” on the card. But if these people did things that made sense, we wouldn’t get to read about them on the internet. Why do they all live in Florida?
