While discussing the 40th anniversary of Nixon’s resignation on ABC, Sharyl Attkisson doesn’t pull any punches when laying out a likely scenario if Watergate happened today.

Sharyl Attkisson, award-winning investigative journalist formerly of CBS, is one of the few non-Fox News reporters who endeavors to make the Obama administration come clean on Benghazi and the IRS scandal.
She appeared on ABC and portrayed a likely scenario of what Watergate would look like in today’s political climate with the liberal media shielding the current administration from any real scrutiny.
Nixon would basically refuse to turn over tapes to Congress. His aides would refuse to testify to Congress, or would take the Fifth, or would lie to Congress with a fair amount of impunity. Woodward and Bernstein would be controversialized on social media by special and political interests who use Facebook accounts.
And then at the end, Attkisson declared. Nixon would go on a popular late-night comedy show, during which time he would humorously refer to his attackers who were political witch-hunters who believe in Area 51-type conspiracies.
Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, Pulitzer Prize winners who wrote and reported on the Watergate scandal, also weighed in on Watergate and our current administration.
Both men addressed the scandals in Washington today, but were particularly concerned about the IRS targeting of conservative groups, and of course, the missing emails.
“That is a real issue. Some people should move to Cincinnati and get hotel rooms and say ‘we’re going to talk to everyone who worked in that division at the IRS’,” said Woodward.
Bernstein added that Democrats and Republicans should be doing a real investigation into the scandal as happened during Watergate, as opposed to Republicans trying to score political points and Democrats ignoring the situation altogether.
Obama’s use of the IRS to target political groups is one of the worst abuses of federal government power in our history. It’s far worse than Watergate.
The Watergate burglars were not government employees. No government agency was implicated in the initial break-in. In today’s IRS scandal, the crime was perpetrated by the most feared and powerful government agency in the country. The actions taken by the current administration are not only criminal, but a betrayal of the citizenry’s trust in government.
The investigation continues as the GOP presses for a special prosecutor. One would think that the new Lois Lerner emails uncovered in July would have helped that cause, but not at this point.
In one of those emails, Lerner called conservatives “crazies”. In the other, she called them “a**holes”. The committee redacted the wording to “_holes” in the material it released publicly, but a committee spokeswoman confirmed to the AP that the email said “a**holes”.
Without the mainstream media, their “scandal condom”, Barack Obama and his colorful cast of corrupt characters would not be free to continue their fundamental transformation (destruction) of the United States.
Nixon did not survive Watergate then and he would not be able to survive the IRS scandal of today.
