If Governor Ralph Northam, Lt. Gov Justin Fairfax and Attorney General Mark Herring all step aside, Republican House Speaker Kirk Cox ascends to the Governor’s mansion and Democrat lawmakers are not happy.
It seems Democrats have switched from a political mode instead of a principled mode. A lot of the Virginia press has gone light on the Attorney General who admitted to wearing blackface in hopes that if the top two step down, at least the third will ascend to lead the state and being a Democrat will at least keep things in the party. Bottom line? Power and politics are overtaking principles.
I am trying to understand how the Ed Gillespi research team missed this story on Northam. My only solution to this is that Gillespi didn’t want to get that muddy and probably thought it would hurt him for bringing it out, more than his opponent.
The twin blows began with Attorney General Mark Herring issuing a statement acknowledging he wore brown makeup and a wig in 1980 to look like a rapper during a party when he was a 19-year-old student at the University of Virginia.
Herring — who had previously called on Northam to resign and was planning to run for governor himself in 2021 — apologized for his “callous” behavior and said that the days ahead “will make it clear whether I can or should continue to serve.”
Then, within hours, Vanessa Tyson, the California woman whose sexual assault allegations against Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax surfaced earlier this week, put out a detailed statement saying Fairfax forced her to perform oral sex on him in a hotel room in 2004 during the Democratic National Convention in Boston.
Democrats have expressed fear that the uproar over the governor could jeopardize their chances of taking control of the GOP-dominated Virginia legislature this year. The party made big gains in 2017, in part because of a backlash against President Donald Trump, and has moved to within striking distance of a majority in both houses.

Democrats are not living up to the standards “they” set. Virginia is in a real mess. Their first in line is a liar as well as a racist. Their second in line is a sexual predator. Their third in line is guilty of the same racist mockery. Another Dem leaders kept the Fairfax sexual issue silent from 2017. But — the Dems will not yield the power — so most likely one of these will go by the name of Governor. The hypocrisy does not go unnoticed by the rest of us, however.
Democrats do not want the Republican taking over, that is for sure, but can they weather the storm?
