President Trump’s lawyers are going for the jugular after Stormy Daniels, and lawyer Michael Avenatti lost their defamation case against him.
Daniels claims she never permitted Avenatti to move forward with the case but over the last couple of days; she says both are good and there is no friction. I guess things will be great until that 800K price tag is slapped over Daniels’ head.
This is a clear message for anyone else taking on a sitting president on frivolous lawsuits. Do you think others got the message?
What makes it even worse for Avenatti and Daniels is that the judge said the lawyer fees were “reasonable.” Trump’s attorney, Charles Harder’s firm, charges clients at $840 an hour, but the judge also said that the hours spent (580) might be excessive.
Trump’s attorney Charles Harder asked a court Monday for nearly $390,000 in legal fees and an equal amount as a deterrent against a “repeat filer of frivolous defamation cases,” the Associated Press reported.
“This action is virtually unprecedented in American legal history,” Harder said in a court filing. Daniels “not only brought a meritless claim for defamation against the sitting president of the United States, but she also has engaged, along with her attorney, in massive national publicity.”
Daniels’ attorney Michael Avenatti objected to the proposed penalty, calling it “absurd and outrageous.”
“You can’t just pick a number out of thin air in an effort to put my client under Donald Trump’s thumb and intimidate her,” Avenatti said.
