Outspoken comedian and activist (or at least avid PSA-maker) recently spoke to TMZ about ‘Django Unchained’s’ use of the N-word. Quentin Tarantino’s latest release sees the n-word being said over 100 times. Spike Lee has spoken out, calling the film offensive and promises to never see it.
Silverman, however, believes “you can’t tell art what to do.”
‘Django Unchained’ follows a slave turned bounty hunter, Jamie Foxx, as he seeks to rescue his enslaved wife from a horrible plantation owner. Silverman believes that Tarantino is using the N-word because it’s relevant to the time period and storyline. “Doesn’t it take place like during slavery? Wouldn’t it be odd if they didn’t have that horrific word in it?”
Silverman admits to also being a fan of Spike Lee’s, but does confess that Lee has “got a lot of mishegas with a lot of art. I think you can’t really tell art what to do.”
