Thief shoots himself in the leg during store robbery

According to reports, 21-year-old Donnello Knowles began a series of thefts at a nail salon in Stockton, where he stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the clerk. He then made his way to a Subway restaurant, where he instructed those inside the building to get on the ground. He stole money from the victims before attempting to open a safe. When he was unable to open the safe, Knowles fled on foot.

The robber then entered a Valero convenience store, where he demanded money from the clerk. The clerk handed him money from the register, and he proceeded to grab his shotgun from his pants. As he was doing so, he accidentally shot himself in the leg. Knowles then fled to the nearby Polo Run apartment complex, where he attempted to get help from a friend.

Police said they received three different calls regarding a robbery as well as one report of someone being shot. When they responded to the shooting, authorities determined that the person injured matched the description of the robbery suspect, and Knowles was taken to a hospital for treatment.
