The Rev Al Sharpnuts, Classified a deadbeat; owes its landlord more than $28,000

The Washington Post reports that Al Sharpton’s group, the National Action Network, owes its landlord more than $28,000, according to the landlord. This amount includes seven months of unpaid rent.

A spokesperson for Sharpton denied that his organization is in arrears. It e-mailed the Post a copy of a check the group has written out to the landlord for $16,950. But the landlord says it has not received the check and, in any case, it doesn’t cover the full amount of what Sharpton’s outfit owes.

At this point, one might expect Sharpton to accuse the landlord of racism. But this move is not available here. The landlord is the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials.

A true Uncle Tom. He serves the interests of white Democratic elites by distracting his followers from the issues that matter: genuine education reform, capital accumulation, social stability and economic opportunity. In return, Sharpton is innoculated with perpetual media salvation. Not Tawana Brawley, his antisemitic rabble rousing in Crown Heights and Harlem, or his constant run-ins with the IRS are enough are enough to disgrace him.

Instead, elite control of the channels of ascent reward him–tacit acceptance of his constant shakedowns, unlimited media access and most recently a well paid perch at MSNBC.

And to his credit, Al Sharpton earns every buck.
