The federal government runs a website that helps immigrants sign up for welfare programs

Have you ever visited the website WelcomeToUSA.gov? Until recently I wasn’t even aware that the federal government had a website devoted to new immigrants, let alone information on that site detailing how to obtain various welfare benefits!

The website is “the U.S. Government’s official web portal for new immigrants” and is run by the Department of Homeland Security.

Take a look at the site for yourself by clicking here.

Here is the opening paragraph of the site which encourages immigrants to sign up for benefits:

Depending on your immigration status, length of time in the United States, and income, you may be eligible for some federal benefit programs. Government assistance programs can be critically important to the well-being of some immigrants and their families. Frequently, however, there is a lack of information about how to access such benefits. Benefit programs can be complicated and you may be given misleading information about how they operate.

Immigrants to this country should be self-sustaining and not immediately require government assistance. They should come here with the intent and ability to work and not be a drain on society. Promoting government benefits is sending the wrong message to immigrants and goes against everything we claim to stand for.
