The Devil You Don’t Know Is Worse and Resides Inside the Beltway

Michael J. Daugherty is a writer and the author of The Devil Inside the Beltway: The Shocking Expose of the Us Government’s Surveillance and Overreach Into Cybersecurity, Medicine and Small Business, but this was not always so.

Until 2008, Daugerty was a small business owner from Atlanta Georgia, living the American Dream.  After a 14 year career in surgical sales, in 1996 Daugherty opened  LabMD, a clinical and anatomic medical laboratory specializing in analysis and diagnosis of blood, urine, and tissue specimens for cancers, micro-organisms and tumor markers.

LabMD was thriving, and the time had come to consider further investment and expansion of the company. Unfortunately the excitement over what the future may hold was quickly extinguished in the form of a  phone call from the cybersecurity firm, Tiversa.

In his debut novel, Daugherty takes the reader with him on his five year journey beginning with Tiversa’s phone call  alerting LabMD it was in possession of thousands of it’s patient files that ventually led to an investigation by the Federal Trade Commission.

Daugherty’s writing style reads more like a political thriller than non-fiction taking the reader directly into the belly of the beast, exposing the freightening reality of what occurs when citizens are caught in an unwarranted invesitgation by unelected officials who use intimdation and bullying tactics to silence any resistence.

Using investigative skills likely learned growing up in the home of two detectives, Daugherty uncovers bombshell after bombshell including a relationship between the FTC, cybersecurity firms like Tiversa and P2P developers responsible for the type of file sharing programs often used in data security breaches.

In The Devil Inside the Beltway, we learn the government is indeed here, but they are not here to help.  For years. the U.S. Government has teamed up with cyber security firms as well as with academia surveilling networks, taking possession of files they deem shared.  Rather than helping those victimized by sanctioned file downloads, they choose instead to attack.

The Devil Inside the Beltway is an important novel, at an important time as Government overreach continues it’s growth.  Most would not choose to enter into the ring with Golaith, but Michael J. Daugherty is not your average citizen as is made clear with his ability to take a non-fiction complex subject and turn it into a book you will not want to put down.
