Taylor Swift was a spectacular songwriter and performer at a very young age. On Friday night, she took her war against celebrity talent manager Scooter Braun to the public while also calling out a George Soros group for helping to purchase rights to her music catalog.
I was never impressed with her, but I did notice how she entered the ‘business’ by using country music as her vehicle. Now she doesn’t agree with how the ‘business’ (which she agreed to in signing the agreements) has worked.
Taylor calling Soros is crazy. She supports and promotes Democratic candidates funded by the man, so why is she surprised he’s in the business to make money off her work?
Swift sold her early work to break into the business she now dominates. She paid a high price for her success. She should accept that she is at the top of the heap, and she can write more songs.
No one sold her early work but her!
Taylor Swift renewed her criticism of private equity, calling out the Carlyle Group and the Soros family for helping her nemesis Scooter Braun purchase the rights to her old music.
In a speech at a Billboard Women in Music event Thursday night, she called the increasing presence of private equity in the music industry a “potentially harmful force,” decrying that the firms are unregulated and “buying up our music as if it is real estate.”
Swift took direct shots at Soros, Carlyle and the sports and media-focused investment firm 23 Capital for helping music manager Braun’s Ithaca Holdings purchase of her old catalog. She claimed none of them contacted her or her team to perform “due diligence” before the sale. And none has contacted her since, she said.
Swift has been publicly complaining for months about Braun, who manages the careers of Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, claiming he bullied her in the past.
“The fact is that private equity is what enabled this man to think, according to his own social media post, that he could buy me. But I’m obviously not going willingly,” she said.
She needs to stop with the whole men against women in music nonsense. She has it a lot better than any male singer/songwriter. That’s just the music industry. It used to be bad. John Fogerty and Tom Petty both had big fights against their record labels. She signed a deal that gave up the rights to the albums. She’s lucky she owns the songs. Next November, she can make new versions of the albums.
As for Braun, he bought a record company that outright owns the rights to some of her music. She should blame herself for allowing those masters to be owned by the record company. There is absolutely no reason for Braun to ask her for permission for anything. She got enough money and recognition – perhaps more than she earned – and I would think she’s not the spoiled little brat as which she comes across.
And once again, this was the wrong forum and the wrong circumstance to talk about (perceived?) ‘toxic male privilege.’
Taylor had better watch out. Soros is the biggest supporter and funder of the Democratic Party and all of the “fake media” so-called “news organizations” of the left, and he could wipe her music off the airwaves very quickly.
