Something Good Out Of Tragedies

Recent tragedies have led some to try and prevent them for happening again.  At least maybe not the way these tragedies have happened recently.  After the attacks of 11 September 2001 that were conducted on the Nation by hijackers aboard aircraft, the Federal Government instructed air carriers to reenforce the door leading to the cockpit of aircraft.  Along with the door reenforcement it was recommend that the pilots of aircraft be armed.  That recommendation was the source of much debate but after the rancor was squelched pilots were allowed to be armed onboard their aircraft.

Now to be able to carry a weapon onboard pilots have to go through a training program.  And with typical Governmental efficiency pilots can get certified to carry in 5 days.  They also have to re-certify every 6 months.  Thing is they can’t go to their local gun range to re-qualify they have to go to Government approved ranges.  Because the Government has made it so difficult to maintain weapons qualification, some qualified pilots are not going to maintain their qualification and NOT carry a weapon on the aircraft.  So as usual the government says yes you can carry the weapon but it makes it so difficult that most will not bother at all or refuse to re-qualify.  How is that making passengers safer?

Senator Rand Paul is introducing legislation that will make it easier for these pilots to maintain their qualification to carry weapons on the aircraft. So maybe Harry Reid will allow a bill that will keep ALL people safe to come to the floor of the Senate for a change.

Also Sen Paul is proposing legislation that will allow Military Personnel to carry weapons on Military Installations.  As reported previously we all know that Military bases are now basically gun free zones.  And gun free zones are the second most dangerous place in America, except for the womb of a pregnant mother.

So again let us all hope that the Harry Reid led U.S. Senate will allow these bills to make it to the floor for debate.  Maybe for once the safety of our Service men and women along with airline passengers will come before Harry’s political insanity.
