SNL fired comedian Shane Gillis for offending the ‘woke’ police just four days after he was hired. Just what is the world coming to when comedians have to watch their every word for fear of offending the PC police?
C0medians, once seen as court jesters who could offend anyone and everyone at will, are no longer out of the reach of the left’s giant wet blanket.
Shane Gillis will not be appearing on “Saturday Night Live” this fall.
Less than a week after the comedian was announced as a new featured player for Season 45 of the Emmy-winning sketch series, he was fired.
“After talking with Shane Gillis, we have decided that he will not be joining SNL,” an SNL spokesperson on behalf of Lorne Michaels, the iconic series’ creator and producer, confirmed to Fox News. “We want SNL to have a variety of voices and points of view within the show, and we hired Shane on the strength of his talent as a comedian and his impressive audition for SNL.
“We were not aware of his prior remarks that have surfaced over the past few days. The language he used is offensive, hurtful and unacceptable. We are sorry that we did not see these clips earlier, and that our vetting process was not up to our standard.” [Fox News]
Taking to Twitter, Gillis remained defiant.
“I’m a comedian who was funny enough to get SNL. That can’t be taken away.”
“Of course I wanted an opportunity to prove myself at SNL, but I understand It would too much of a distraction. I respect the decision they made. I’m honestly grateful for the opportunity. I was always a Mad TV guy anyway.” [Twitter]
It’s all so tiresome watching the cycle of politically correct scolds and schoolmarms continually try to get everyone who offends the woke police fired or banned forever from public life.
Thankfully, America’s comedians are fighting back. And let’s hope Shane Gillis joins them.
Dave Chappelle used some comic sleight of hand before blasting cancel culture in his latest Netflix special.
Fellow comedian Bill Burr hit the same target seconds after walking on stage during his own Netflix hour, dubbed Paper Tiger.
Together, they struck a blow against the PC comedy police that’s already left a mark.
Chappelle’s Sticks & Stones drew copious conservative praise along with ire from the usual suspects, including The Root and Vice. [NewsBusters]
Are you like me? Are you curious about what Shane Gillis said that was so offensive, anyways? Fox News has the scoop:
A YouTube video surfaced of Gillis and fellow comedian Matt McCusker discussing an unidentified city’s Chinatown neighborhood.
At one point, Gillis asked: “Why do the f—ing c—ks live there?” before complaining that Chinese restaurants are full of “f—ing Chinese. … And the translation between you and the waiter is just such a f—ing hassle.” He also said he was more annoyed by hearing an Asian trying to learn English when he’s eating out than by any other “minority” playing music.
He characterized that reaction as “nice racism, good racism,” adding that whites would be a similar target if they were speaking English “over there,” not specifying where he meant.
Early Saturday, Page Six reported that Gillis had described 2020 presidential contender Andrew Yang as a “Jew c—k” on a podcast hosted by fellow comedians Luis J. Gomez and Zac Amico. [Fox News]
Might not be your cup of tea, but who cares? This is comedy, it’s not poetry slam at the local hipster coffee club.
