Simpson/Bowles – Fiscal Cliff Deal, a missed opportunity to do something big to reduce our long term fiscal problems

Washington missed a big chance to curb the nation’s debt, say the heads of the 2010 bipartisan commission that recommended ways to do just that.

Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson, co-founder of Fix the Debt, said Wednesday, “The deal approved yesterday is truly a missed opportunity to do something big to reduce our long term fiscal problems,” calling it a “a small step forward in our efforts to reduce the federal deficit.”

The House of Representatives late Tuesday passed the measure to retain Bush-era income tax cuts for all but the wealthy, a bill that prevented the country from going over the “fiscal cliff.”
