Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee once stood on the floor of the House of Representatives and claimed she was the last freed slave.
“I stand here as a freed slave because this Congress came together. Are we going to be able to do it today to free America?”
Anyone remember that ridiculous statement. Now, Jackson Lee is in really hot water.
She has chosen to step down from her seat on the House Judiciary Committee key subcommittees and relinquish her position within the Congressional Black Caucus after a staffer chose to sue the representative’s office for wrongful termination.
The staffer claims she was raped in 2015 by a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and Jackson Lee’s retaliation help lead to her job dismissal.
The move comes after a lawsuit from a former employee who complained that her sexual assault complaint had been mishandled.
House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerrold Nadler of New York says Jackson Lee’s decision to step aside as chairwoman of the House Judiciary Crime Subcommittee was voluntary and “does not suggest any culpability.”
Jackson Lee is also chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, the fundraising arm of the Congressional Black Caucus.
Calls to Jackson Lee’s office and to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation weren’t immediately returned Wednesday.

Jackson Lee is an embarrassment to the people of Texas and the United States. She will not do anything unless race is involved somehow. She was an executive at Enron if that brings back memories. If there is a camera of any type around, do not get between her and the camera as you will be run over.
Jackson Lee is listed as meanest Congress member to employees and those that served her for almost a decade now. She has an image to protect, and it’s not easy to continuously hold the heavyweight title with the likes of Maxine Waters and Nancy Pelosi climbing up the ranks.
A very informed friend of mine claimed she was banned from Continental Airlines because she always arrives late and expects the planes to be held for her. She took a framed proclamation (poster size) to Michael Jackson’s funeral and spoke, of course. She was late to the Wreaths Across America event on year in Houston, and they refused to let her speak.
She was an accident waiting to happen, and now it’s here.
