Report: Tennis Umpires Could Boycott Matches Involving Serena Williams

According to The Times, an official told them it’s likely all Serena Williams matches could be boycotted by future umpires.

I know this is shocking to hear that I agree with the umpires. I’ve been watching tennis for over 25 years, and I’ve seen male tennis players get docked points and games for having temper tantrums on the court.

Serena Williams is not the first person to ever get the point taken away or a game taken away because they acted like a petulant child on the tennis court. She publicly called the tennis empire a thief in front of the entire crowd wish you could do it anytime in the future with male umpires.

Williams claimed she is now playing for women’s rights so why not just give her women judges and if she gets angry at them so be it. She’s already threatened to push a tennis ball down the throat of a woman line judge a few years ago. I think the judges have every right to boycott if they are assigned her match, and again I hope they do.

Williams, who called Ramos a “liar” and “thief” during the match she lost to Naomi Osaka, has alleged sexism played a role in the umpire docking her a game on Saturday.

In The Times report, one anonymous official told the outlet about umpires building solidarity with each other against Williams, as they believe the United States Tennis Association sold out Ramos by not defending him against Williams’ claims of sexism and insults during the match. To combat this, some umpires are weighing the idea of saying no every time they are asked to officiate a Williams match, unless she apologizes to Ramos.

The International Tennis Federation stood by Ramos in a statement, saying, “Mr Ramos’s decisions were in accordance with the relevant rules and were reaffirmed by the US Open’s decision to fine Ms. Williams for the three offences.”

Her opponent was a woman and she’s crying sexism. Frankly, if the umpire were sexist (I don’t feel he was but if he was), then both women players would have been exposed to the same level of sexism, and his bias would not influence the outcome. What happened in other matches should make no difference. This is all bullcrap and Serena should be ashamed of herself.

To be honest, I’ve seen a lot worse from male players throughout the years, and they received the same treatment from the umpires and line judges, so her embarrassment of losing to Naomi is the real reason for her going crazy.
