President Trump Fires Back At Rashida Tlaib After She Breaks Down During Press Conference

By Daniel M | August 20, 2019

Yesterday, we reported that Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib had broken down in tears during a press conference with Ilhan Omar in which they discussed the travel restrictions placed on them by Israel. Now, President Donald Trump has fired back by mocking her tears and accusing her of faking them for the cameras.

“Sorry, I don’t buy Rep. Tlaib’s tears. I have watched her violence, craziness and, most importantly, WORDS, for far too long. Now tears? She hates Israel and all Jewish people. She is an anti-Semite. She and her 3 friends are the new face of the Democrat Party. Live with it!” Trump tweeted, according to The New York Post.

The three friends Trump was referring to are the rest of Tlaib’s “Squad,” which consists of Omar and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Ayanna Pressley.

This came one day after Tlaib broke down in tears while recalling visiting Jerusalem as a child.

“As a young girl visiting Palestine to see my grandparents and extended family, I watched as my mother had to go through dehumanizing checkpoints – even though she was a United States citizen and a proud American,” she said. When Tlaib shifted to talking about conversations she’d had with her Palestinian grandmother, who she’d planned to visit on this trip, she completely choked up.

“She said I’m her dream manifested,” Tlaib said. “I’m her free bird so why would I come back and be caged and bow down?”

“What I tell Rashida all the time is that you don’t ever allow people to enjoy your tears,” Omar interjected. “I say that all the time. There are so many people invested in our pain, in our struggle, in seeing us broken.”

The two women used the press conference to demand that Congress take action against Israel over the restrictions.

“We in the United States have a constructive role to play,” Omar said, according to Fox News. “We give Israel more than $3 million in aid every year. This is predicated on them being an important ally in the region, and the only democracy in the Middle East. But, denying a visit to duly elected members of Congress is not consistent with being an ally.”

Omar went on to add that we “have a responsibility to conduct oversight over our government’s foreign policy and what happens with the millions of dollars we send in aid.”
