People who live behind walls shouldn’t criticize those who want the same protection and sovereignty.
The Pope has been quoted saying that he would tell President Trump that walls do not work, face to face.
Instead of misleading the flock, the Pope should lead by example: welcome any and everyone into his quarters in the Vatican and give up his security guards, in a full sacrificial welcoming of all of humanity.
He will never do those things, for reasons of security and self-preservation, but he attempts to deny other Westerners the same right of self-protection. And when Francis accuses those who build walls of not being Christian, as he did of Trump, he essentially accuses men like Pope Leo IV — who did so much to protect and preserve Christendom at a time when Islam was swallowing up the world — of being no Christians at all. The issue has never been about being unwelcoming to the stranger, but vetting the stranger.
Also, Pope Francis can step out of his luxurious apartments, embrace the Islamic State jihadis, kiss their feet, and explain to them that authentic Islam and the proper understanding of the Koran reject every form of violence. Then they’ll share a hearty laugh over their former misunderstanding of Islam, and all will be well.
Francis, who has clashed with Trump before on migration issues, discussed the situation at the U.S.-Mexican border with veteran Vatican reporter Valentina Alazraki, who is Mexican.
“I don’t know what’s happening with this new culture of defending territories by building walls. We already knew one, that (one) in Berlin, which brought so many headaches and so much suffering,” he said.
“Separating children from their parents goes against natural law, and those Christians … you can’t do it. It is cruel. It is among the greatest of cruelties. And to defend what? Territory, or the economy of a country or who knows what,” he said, adding that such policies were “very sad”.
Asked if he would tell Trump the same thing to his face if the president were sitting opposite him instead of the reporter, Francis said: “The same. The same because I say it publicly … I have even said that those who build walls end up being prisoners of the walls they build.” [Reuters]
That’s a good point, your Holiness. So, how many immigrants would you be willing to take in behind your walls, house, feed and educate and keep healthy? Evidently, the Vatican, the Catholic Church can afford it. You do live in a mansion surrounded by gold and fine silk linens.
The Pope is the Pope we all know that but he also the leader of an independent country, yes the Vatican is a country unto its self. Anyways the Pope is going to lecture our president on immigration, that a good one considering the Vatican has a zero immigration policy, that right no one is permitted to immigrate into the Vatican.
The Pope is misinformed and ignorant of the whole situation. He is only infallible in matters of the church and has no business dictating matters of state. His lack of knowledge is proof of that by the way. The Vatican has a wall around it. Isn’t that for security? Well, we have the right to keep Americans secure as well.
So until the Vatican get invaded by tens of thousands of illegal immigrant, the Pope should back off on advising on immigration.
