That is just outrageous. What kind of safety system is that! I am so glad that he was paying attention or this would not have ended well. Not only did the gates fail to lower, but did anyone else notice that the lights on the officer’s side weren’t working either?
An Illinois police officer was nearly hit by an oncoming passenger train after the crossing gates failed to lower. It was all caught on the cruiser’s dashcam. Officer Peter Stanglewicz wrote on social media, “I just thought I wasn’t born with luck at all. Little did I know, I had luck, I was just saving it all up for the perfect time.”
This is why I slow down every railroad crossing. I’ve seen the gates down and lights flashing and no train as well as incidents like this.
