OBAMABLAME: Nevada Jobless Claims Rise for October: You can’t hide dirt forever

The number of Nevadans filing initial claims for jobless benefits rebounded in October after reaching a five-year low the month earlier.

The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation says Wednesday about 18,500 initial claims were filed last month, compared with 17,500 in October 2011. It’s also a big jump from September 2012, when less than 14,000 claims were filed.

Officials say the new numbers are skewed because September had only 19 working days, while October had 22 and offered more opportunities to file for unemployment. They also say October typically begins a seasonal jump in claims that lasts through winter.

Nevada has had the nation’s highest jobless rate since May 2010 and the state still went for Barack Obama in 2012!
