Oakland Raiders Marshawn Lynch Sits During National Anthem

Another NFL year, another player having a problem with standing for the United States National Anthem. Coach doesn’t feel it will hurt the team. Let’s wait until ticket sales start to plummet.

I admit I was happy former Seattle Seahawks running-back Marshawn Lynch chose to come back to the NFL. When he signed with the Oakland Raiders made it seem so intriguing. I knew he was a bruiser player that loved to dish out punishment to the opposing team, but I don’t remember him as this type of player to sit for the anthem.

He’s an activist and a free-loving soul that enjoys playing the game of football. But what happened on Saturday night is not something to be proud of.

It sucks when one of your favorite players do this. It accomplishes absolutely nothing. What has changed since this stupid disrespect the flag crap started? How about use some of your millions and make a difference for your cause off the field.

If you want to be an activist, leave football and sign up. When you join a professional team, you have to abide by the rules of the team, dand if that said team allows their players to sit during the national anthem, then that team needs to lose its base at the ticket office.

Lynch, who did not play in the game, sat on an orange cooler, arms on his knees, while all others around him stood.

Raiders coach Jack Del Rio addressed Lynch’s decision to sit following his team’s 20-10 loss to the Cardinals, adding he was unaware of Lynch’s plans before the game.

“On Marshawn, talked to Marshawn trying to make sure we’re on the same page,” Del Rio said. “He said, ‘This is something I’ve done for 11 years. It’s not a form of anything other than me being myself.’ I said, ‘So you understand how I feel, I very strongly believe in standing for the national anthem. But I’m going to respect you as a man, you do your thing. We’ll do ours.’ It’s a non-issue for me.”

Del Rio told reporters he did not believe Lynch sitting would be a distraction.

Lynch’s locker was cleared by the time the media was permitted in the postgame locker room Saturday night, per multiple reporters.

If you claim to love America and its “freedom” of expression but then denounce those, who use their freedom. Then you don’t love this country. You don’t love the flag. You are an enemy of the Constitution. You are not a Patriot. You are a communist. You are an inclusionist. You believe everyone should drink the Kool Aid. The last thing you are is American.

This is not about race. It’s about respect and appreciation. This is a slap in the face to every person who wore a uniform in defense of this country. If you want to make a political statement, fine but pick another way.
