A secluded governor has emerged from his mansion in Virginia to speak to his voters that he’s not resigning, but he is releasing new plans.
Governor Ralph Northam is trying to escape two weeks of bad publicity concerning a racist photo that was published on his college yearbook page. If you don’t know by now, the photo had one individual in blackface and had another wearing a Ku Klux Klan outfit.
Northam contends he wasn’t in the photo after he apologized for the photo the night before. Many believed it was Northam since it was his yearbook page, but it has not been confirmed.
You have to admit, Northam played this well. Everyone knows the first 96 hours of a scandal are the most crucial and then the people forget. He has surpassed that, and he will be old news by next weekend. He’s not going anywhere.
“I overreacted,” he said, by putting out a statement taking blame for the picture. “If I had it to do over I would step back and take a deep breath.” He said that an “independent investigation” being conducted by Eastern Virginia Medical School is aimed at clearing up the facts around it.
Looking ahead, Northam said he has asked his cabinet secretaries to come up with specific proposals to begin addressing issues of inequality, such as expanding access to health care, housing and transportation, and to begin reporting suggestions on Monday.
“It’s obvious from what happened this week that we still have a lot of work to do. There are still some very deep wounds in Virginia, and especially in the area of equity,” he said. “There are ongoing inequities to access to things like education, health care, mortgages, capital, entrepreneurship. And so this has been a real, I think , an awakening for Virginia. It has really raised the level of awareness for racial issues in Virginia. And so we’re ready to learn from our mistakes.”

Just think, 250 years after the Declaration of Independence stated: “truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal.” And we’re still talking about this.
Racial equality will only come about when people feel it in their hearts. The fact is, we are created equal, but that changes as soon as the birth certificates are issued, and the ethnicity box is checked.
Between their p***yhat parades, Supreme Court hearing temper tantrums, blaming all their failures on the Russians and thinking they can solve racism by tearing down old statues, the Democrats were already in a bad spot.
After this past week’s Democrat idiocy, the last of their 2020 chances probably just went out the window. I hope Northam can make progress with racial equality to offset the hate and division the Democratic Party has created.
