NEWSFLASH! France’s Strict Gun Control Did Not Stop Today’s Shootings

Today’s shooting that took place was a tragedy in France. Because of a cartoon, 3 radical Islamists didn’t like of the prophet Mohammed being mocked, they shouted “Allahu Akbar” and went on a shooting spree, killing 12 and injuring others.

But here’s a fact liberals don’t want to accept: France’s gun control didn’t stop these radical Islamists from arming themselves and shooting innocent victims.

Here is an excerpt from Chapter 9 of Dana Loesch’s book Hands Off My Gun.

In France, the government has banned semiautomatic rifles and basic-capacity magazines. It even limits the number of bullets you can buy in a year. But none of that stopped Richard Durn’s shooting rampage in March 2002. He went to a town council meeting and killed eight town councilors in cold blood. The meeting was in a gun-free zone. Durn’s victims were unarmed.

And it is the same case in today’s massacre. It is not a gun control issue.

Plus the political correctness when it comes to this is so absurd, even Piers Morgan hasn’t been tweeting about needing more gun control in France, but only does here in America. Twitchy did a good job reporting on this double standard. Not once has Piers yet mentioned the NRA, needing to limit the size of magazines, or banning certain guns in regards to this shooting. I’m not sure whether it is because it did not take place in America and doesn’t fit his agenda, or because it was a case of radical Islam and doesn’t want to offend anyone.

Regardless, he was not a happy fellow when he discovered Twitchy’s report.

France is not a very gun friendly country. In fact, it isn’t just France but many European countries as well. The European Council Directive of June 18th, 1991 prohibits private citizens from possessing fully automatic weapons and heavily regulates semi-automatic and handguns as well. In a 2012 article from Transatlantic magazine, it describes the typical, rigorous process to obtaining a firearm in France.

Let’s take the example of France. To obtain such a license, people have to practice shooting during at least six months in a club of the official French Federation of Shooting. After the Federation has given its favorable opinion, the police investigate on criminal or mental records. If the police do not find anything, they give an authorization valid for five years. The owner must then buy his gun in a limited period of three months if he doesn’t want his authorization to expire. There is also a limitation regarding the number: a maximum of twelve guns can be detained, while in Norway, such restriction does not exist. Since the French law of 1995, it is nowadays compulsory to keep guns into a locked safe.

It turns out the guns these murderers used today were AK-47s. The weapons were said to be automatic, which are already banned in France.

The bottom line is this: Criminals will never follow a single gun control law. They never had and never will. In today’s shootings, these weren’t just criminals. They were terrorists. People with common sense and supporting the right to bear arms already understand this, but those who do not still don’t get it. Wayne LaPierre of the NRA is right when he said the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is to have a good guy with a gun. This is the case 99% of the time, if not 100% of the time. France and other countries with strict gun control need to re-evaluate their laws and if they haven’t figured it out yet when you allow law abiding citizens of your country to carry a firearm, you’ll see your country’s crime rates plummet. I pray for all the victims and their families, but also pray that these countries get some common sense and realize gun control isn’t the solution.
