Mulvaney Retracts Statement About Ukraine Aid And DNC Server

On Thursday, acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney released a statement retracting what he said during a press briefing about withholding Ukrainian aid with regard to the 2016 corruption with the DNC server.

Here is that statement:

Ari Fleischer, a Fox News contributor, called out Mulvaney’s statement as a mistake and made things worse.

“His mistake was saying something that was contrary to what the president [Trump] has said. The president has said there was no quid pro quo and that’s exactly what his chief of staff should’ve said,” Fleischer told “Fox & Friends.”

Mulvaney seemed to contradict President Trump’s claim that there was no “quid pro quo” during his July 25 phone call  with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, by telling reporters at the White House Thursday that the release of military aid to Ukraine was tied to the administration’s demands that Kiev investigate purported corruption by the Democrats during the 2016 presidential election campaign.

When questioned by reporters about the administration’s decision to withhold $400 million in aid from Ukraine, Mulvaney said that Trump told him at the time: “This is a corrupt place. Everyone knows this is a corrupt place … Plus, I’m not sure that the other European countries are helping them out either.”

Mulvaney added: “Did [Trump] also mention to me, in the past, the corruption related to the DNC server? Absolutely. No question about that. But that’s it. And that’s why we held up the money … The look back to what happened in 2016 certainly was part of the thing that he was worried about in corruption with that nation. And that is absolutely appropriate.” [Fox News]

He speaks fast and probably did not phrase his answer as precise as possible but the Media would jump on any word or phrase by Trump or his associates and make a big deal of it; they are looking for dirt to use. Good, he offered a clarification for the Media that notices only what they want to notice.

In speaking to my friend yesterday, he also felt that there was no need for Mulvaney to “retract” anything. There is a need for dumbed-down, mal-educated, ill-educated and la-la loonies to sign up for remedial reading/audible comprehensive studies so they can comprehend and process the spoken word, and discern fake from fantasy. But it’s probably too late. They have no historical perspective – no understanding of what is at stake. If only there were a remedial educational system that could take them back and de-program them from brainwashing they have received from the subversive dictates of the Howard Zinn illusion of American History.

Mulvaney should have stuck to his guns on his comment to the press. It is a legitimate reason to withhold aid as leverage for a foreign government to cooperate with an ongoing investigation. Add that to the other two reasons and it is ironclad.

The fact is Trump doesn’t like giving aid to other countries period. He most definitely didn’t want to hand it over to a very corrupt country without assurances that corruption wasn’t being dealt with, and that includes cooperating with an ongoing investigation.
