Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was commander-in-chief during the early years of the Pacific War and responsible for major battles including Pearl Harbor.
After the Pearl Harbor attack, it is reported, while others celebrated the attack’s success, Admiral Yamamoto fell into a depression saying, “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.” The quote signifying the moment a powerful force of unknown destructive capabilities is provoked into action.
In response to the government shutdown, the Obama Administration delayed military death benefits and erected barricades at veteran memorials for partisan political purposes.
Although unintentional, President Obama’s actions resulted in an unintended consequence – the awakening of a sleeping giant.
The Million Vet March on the Memorials
was organized in days, yet managed to draw thousands to its rally held yesterday in Washington D.C. According to the website
, organizers of the protest, who have no political affiliation, were prompted to act by the government’s shutdown the WWII Memorial. The group, comprised of ‘military brats and spouses, …were utterly disappointed… that our Greatest Generation were being used as political pawns in the ongoing government shutdown and budget crisis’.
Photographs, videos and real time tweets of the Million Vet March show a newsworthy event, however, CNN attempted to downplay the significance of the rally by mocking the crowd size and participants saying:
‘The rally, billed as the “Million Vet March on the Memorials,” drew far fewer than a million people and evolved into a protest that resembled familiar tea party events from 2009, with yellow “Don’t Tread On Me” flags throughout the crowd and strong anti-Obama language from the podium and the audience.
One speaker went as far as saying the president was a Muslim and separately urged the crowd of hundreds to initiate a peaceful uprising.’
Surprisingly (read sarcasm), a search of CNN’s website for similar stories mocking the tens of people who turned out for the billed Million Muslim March came up empty.
The president and mainstream media continue to underestimate the country’s profound respect for its military and its passion for the liberty they protect. More importantly, they fail to understand what Admiral Yamamoto understood after the attack on Pearl Harbor – it is never good to awaken a sleeping giant.
The continued provoking of ‘We the People’ by President Obama and the establishment class in D.C. only increases the people’s resolve. Shak Hill
, U.S. Senate candidate from Virgnia put it well when he spoke at the #1MVetMarch
and reminded the president it is not the people who are concerned about him, it is he who should be concerned about ‘We the People.’
