You won’t believe this!
On Monday, Sen. Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader, said he can’t understand why 9/11 Fund advocate Jon Stewart is angry over the handling of health care funding for 9/11 victims.
Stewart, a former host of the Daily Show, slammed Congress members that failed to show up to the hearing to listen to those who had traveled from far away places to be heard on renewing the fund that was supposed to run out in 2020.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Monday said he can’t understand why Jon Stewart is angry over the handling of health care funding for 9/11 victims.
“We have never failed to address this issue, and we will address it again,” McConnell said on “Fox & Friends.” “I don’t know why he’s all bent out of shape.”
Appearing at a hearing of a subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee last week, Stewart made an impassioned plea for lawmakers to reauthorize the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, which is set to expire next year amid mounting claims from first responders, construction workers and others involved in operations at Ground Zero up through May 30, 2002. Stewart responded to McConnell on Fox News Sunday programming with host Chris Wallace:
— FoxNewsSunday (@FoxNewsSunday) June 16, 2019
Stewart: I want to make it clear that this has never been dealt with compassionately by Sen. McConnell. He has always held out until the very last minute and only then, under intense lobbying and public shaming has he even deigned to move on it.”
“I think there’s a feeling of disbelief. They can’t understand why they have to continually saddle up and ride down to Washington and make these appeals for something that should be simple but is somehow, through politics, made agonizingly difficult.”
Meanwhile, McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, who heads up the Department of Transportation, appointed a special liaison whose job was to focus exclusively on money requests from Kentucky — where her husband is running for reelection to the US Senate — and fast-track those projects, including by helping the companies improve their applications. The liaison focused on projects of special significance to McConnell’s campaign, an egregious example of a powerful Cabinet secretary using her office to help her husband politically.
McConnell’s statement illustrates the “tip of the iceberg” in how out of touch McConnell is with America. McConnell is 109% focused on special interests. It is time the good people from the great state of Kentucky perform their Patriotic duty and vote McConnell out in 2020.
McConnell is fooling himself if he thinks he can convince even the Republicans that he’s given this fund all of his attention and compassion after Stewart’s recent lobbying. I think we can all agree that despite Jon’s left-leaning views, his efforts for 9/11 victims is a bipartisan issue we all want to be handled with grace, efficiency, and dignity.
This is not even a left vs right issue. I’m an independent conservative and I will tell you McConnell is a con man. We need people in power to do the jobs we elected them to do. Does anyone, left or right, think that Congress has been doing their job? I can’t remember when I could say yes to that.
