In a truly shocking turn of events, former FBI Director James Comey discarded his actions to shame disgraced former FBI employees Peter Strzok and Lisa Page who he claimed hurt the FBI’s image.
CNN held a Town Hall and made Comey their guest on the hot seat to answer questions. One of the audience members asked what Comey thought should be consequences for Strzok, Page, and Andrew McCabe.
“I think, given the standards that we have, there should have been, and was, severe discipline around their behavior,” said Comey.
“Everyone has opinions. You can’t bring them to work and have them affect your work, there have to be severe consequences,” he added.
This is coming from a guy who got in front of the cameras and read off a laundry list of all the laws Hillary Clinton broke which should’ve sent her to jail and ended it with “But we’re not recommending she be charged.”
Moderator CNN’s Anderson Cooper followed up Comey’s response with several questions of his own, including whether he would “acknowledge” their actions “damaged” the FBI’s reputation and “tarnished” the Russia investigation.
“Definitely, yeah. Very painful. It was important that it be investigated, and important that there be discipline that follows it. But yeah, it made us all look bad,”
“Peter Strzok is a very talented agent, it’s a personal tragedy for him. But, as much as I care about individuals, I care about the institution more. It hurt the institution,” said Comey.
What about the country? What about every innocent person who has to wonder if politically bias FBI agents will treat them fairly? Nothing to say on how this mess diminishes our civil liberties?
Listening to Comey, you would think he’s talking about some harmless library. He’s talking about the most powerful law enforcement agency in the country, and he shows no concern for the innocent people whose lives can be ruined by deeply bias agents.
He cares about his disgraced agent? He cares even more about his precious “institution?” But he makes absolutely no mention of the people his agent and institution are supposed to serve. I’m stunned; we didn’t even make his list. He has nothing to say about how this exposed political bias in law enforcement impacts the public. Our civil liberties aren’t even a thought in his head. And this guy was the top law enforcement official in a government that supposedly serves the people?
I’m horrified that this authoritarian bureaucrat ran the FBI.
