According to AP, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard shot down a U.S. drone over the Strait of Hormuz with a surface-to-air missile on Thursday, which no doubt, escalates the already heightened tension between Tehran and Washington, D.C.
U.S. officials told the Associated Press the location of the drone before it was shot down is being disputed. They contend it was in international airspace while Iran says the aircraft entered its airspace near the Kouhmobarak district in southern Iran’s Hormozgan province.

After the drone was shot down, Revolutionary Guard commander Gen. Hossein Salami said Iran is ready for war. Let me reiterate after one drone was shot down, Iran says they are prepared for war with the United States.
Hossein Salami: “Shooting down the American spy drone had a clear, decisive, firm and accurate message. The message is that the guardians of the borders of Islamic Iran will decisively respond to the violation of any stranger to this land. The only solution for the enemies is to respect the territorial integrity and national interests of Iran.”
CENTCOM spokesperson Lt. Col. Earl Brown told ABC News in a statement, “According to our assessment, a modified Iranian SA-7 surface-to-air missile attempted to shoot down a U.S. MQ-9, at 6:45 a.m. local time, June 13, over the Gulf of Oman, to disrupt surveillance of the IRGC attack on the M/T Kokuka Courageous.”
“Subsequent analysis indicates that this was a likely attempt to shoot down or otherwise disrupt the MQ-9 surveillance of the IRGC attack on the M/T Kokuka Courageous,” he added.

Well, well, well. Iran is pushing the window again, trying to provoke the US into responding. At this rate, they may get what they want.
It has been more than a generation since Operation EARNEST WILL and its associated operation, PRAYING MANTIS. The Iranian military might have more toys to play with, but due to command turnover, its operational memory base might be a bit out of touch. The US Navy will probably have to fix that for them.
With people like the Iranians that keep pushing the window, it is often necessary to break the window every once in a while. Maybe there will be a repeat of PRAYING MANTIS.
If the US account that the drone was over water is true, then it fell into the sea and probably triggered a self destruct. If Iran’s account is valid, then it fell on Iran, and there should be evidence in photographs by now, but there are not.
The US is probably testing the Iranian defenses with bait targets loaded with sensors.
