Its been almost a month since I’ve been able to post to the News Ninja site so I thought I’d return with a bit of a history lesson. It does resonate today with the events of the past few weeks and the younger among us might not even know about the topic at hand. You see those born in the 1990s and later have never had to be concerned about the “Old Soviet Union” as if you remember the Kremlin and Polit Bureau just gave up and said enough. Or so they would have you to believe.
It was not that simple and YES the United States of America had a very significant role to play in the demise of the former Soviet Union. And as history is either not taught to our younger generations or it is being re-written people might not realize the dangers of the lurking perils of ignorance. I published this piece yesterday at the Dryer Report and thought I might share it with the News Ninja crowd. Enjoy.
On this the day that 68 years ago Churchill first proclaimed and coined the phrase “Iron Curtain”…we can see today the prophetic words he spoke that day. Churchill warned ….
From what I have seen of our Russian friends and allies during the war, I am convinced that there is nothing they admire so much as strength, and there is nothing for which they have less respect than for weakness, especially military weakness.
For that reason the old doctrine of a balance of power is unsound. We cannot afford, if we can help it, to work on narrow margins, offering temptations to a trial of strength.
Last time I saw it all coming and I cried aloud to my own fellow countrymen and to the world, but no one paid any attention. Up till the year 1933 or even 1935, Germany might have been saved from the awful fate which has overtaken her and we might all have been spared the miseries Hitler let loose upon mankind.
There never was a war in history easier to prevent by timely action than the one which has just desolated such great areas of the globe. It could have been prevented, in my belief, without the firing of a single shot, and Germany might be powerful, prosperous and honored today; but no one would listen and one by one we were all sucked into the awful whirlpool. We must not let it happen again.
And as events unfold in the Ukraine, Syria and other places in the world, it seems that America is putting down the torch handed to this Nation after WW II and it appears that the flame of freedom is starting to dim. Churchill…demonized and ignored in his lifetime until it was too late to ignore…let us not forget what Mr. Churchill told us all once 68 years ago so we are not doomed to repeat the perils of conflicts that can be prevented with a little backbone and perseverance.
