In a video released Thursday, former President Barack Obama just endorsed Emmanuel Macron in France’s presidential election.
However, The Daily Caller reported Obama’s spokesman Kevin Lewis previously said he would not get involved in any endorsement.

Obama said he was grateful for the relationship he held with France and stated how important this election is.
“I have admired the campaign that Emmanuel Macron has run. He has stood up for liberal values. He put forward a vision for the important role that France plays in Europe and around the world, and he is committed to a better future for the French people. He appeals to peoples hopes, not their fears.”
The last sentence seemed to take a shot at Macron’s opponent, Marine Le Pen. She is known for holding a strong stance against immigration.
Obama continued with the official endorsement.
“I also want you to know that I am supporting Emmanuel Macron to lead you forward.”
The candidate showed his thanks on Twitter.

Some Twitter users said he was interfering in their election after Trump opponents accused Russia of the same thing.
