Representatives Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters didn’t think Dr. Ben Carson was capable of running Housing and Urban Development and now we know why!
Yet another example of Obama era cash flow management… Thank You Dr. Carson for stopping this. https://t.co/triFmFbRLs

Section 8 housing is a federal program created to help those who can’t pay for housing. Funds are given to landlords allowing approved families to move into those units.
The initial system involved a bidding process, but that was changed under Obama’s time in office to a federal grant process that ended up in a lawsuit and finally ending at the Supreme Court where HUD lost.
Actually, HUD lost a few court decisions, but that didn’t stop Obama as most of us didn’t even realize what was going on. Carson has found the problem, and he’s readying to reverse Obama’s failed policy back to the bidding process, and I am sure Pelosi and Waters are beside themselves.
Carson has been critical of federally funded housing and Section 8 subsidies for creating “dependency” on the government.

The move would overturn the Obama-era methodology of using a grant-style process that was rebuked by administrators and ultimately the U.S. Supreme Court.
Contractors who had previously gained HUD’s business under the bidding process appealed to the Government Accountability Office in 2012, just months after HUD changed course. And by August of that year, the GAO ruled that HUD’s actions were “unreasonable and in disregard of applicable statutory guidance.”
Undeterred, HUD pressed forward with their choice, which then made them the target of a lawsuit. From that point, HUD lost an embarrassing string of rulings which culminated in the U.S. Supreme Court denying to hear an appeal from the agency in April of 2015.
Despite all those rulings, HUD didn’t budge. But the Trump administration is now set to return to the previous methods.
Eric Strong is the CEO of Navigate Affordable Housing Partners, a company that has won HUD Section 8 contracts in the past under the competitive system. He’s also publicly lobbied HUD to change back to the performance based contracting method.

Dr. Carson is obviously onto something, given the wait list in most cities is years long for housing assistance. We obviously need to identify steps that can be taken to end dependency on the government. Not sure how anyone could logically disagree with it, but I’m sure some will try!
Remember, this happened with “experienced politicians,” who have learned the art of being professional liars and cheats while leaving us dirt poor and a lot homeless. Time to try something new.
