If you had time to sift through the rumors regarding Hillary Clinton’s ability to practice law, most would have learned that the state of Arkansas was suspended her license in 2002 after she failed to complete a continuing education requirement.
This move was purely a procedural matter and reflects the fact that she is no longer practicing law in Arkansas, something she hasn’t done since 1994. Since she lived in New York and was a full-time politician, it’s not surprising that she has not taken steps to maintain her Arkansas law license, which is of no use to her in New York.
Former President Bill Clinton had his law license suspended for giving false testimony in a deposition that most classify as misconduct.
He is also eligible to reinstate his license at this time if he so chooses, but he has not availed himself of that eligibility.
Hillary Clinton’s Arkansas law license has been reinstated after 17 years of suspension. No word as yet on the significance of that.
A recent routine notice of reinstatements and suspensions by the Arkansas Continuing Legal Education Board said Clinton was one of several lawyers reinstated by the board at a meeting March 4 after payment of a reinstatement fee. Another familiar name on the list was that of Rodney Slater, Transportation secretary during the Clinton administration. He was reinstated March 5.
Clinton’s license was suspended in March 2002 for failure to complete continuing education requirements. Having been admitted to the bar more than 40 years ago (she was admitted to the Arkansas bar in October 1973) and also being older than 70, she’s no longer required under Arkansas rules to meet CLE requirements.
Clinton was a partner in the Rose Law Firm when Bill Clinton ran for president. She’s stayed busy since, but not as a practicing lawyer. Her last appearance of record in an Arkansas court was in May 1992, a civil case before the Arkansas Court of Appeals. [excerpt via Arkansas Times]
Hillary will probably be taking on new clients such as rapists, tax evaders, top Democrat leaders who might find themselves in trouble with the law.
America’s worse nightmare would be the next Democrat-elected president could appoint her to the Supreme Court. I am kidding but who knows in today’s world.
