Google Increases Staff To Search Out YouTube Extreme Content

I do not consider myself extreme, but I have been targeted on YouTube for talking about politics and news on a regular basis.

But here’s the deal, I am not angry. I am not yelling at the top of my lungs how they are targeting me because I am black. This is their platform, and I am using it until I find something else that can have a significant reach.

My ability to make money on my videos has been slashed down to nothing, but I will continue using their platform until they shut me down. It’s free and even with their rules that are not friendly for conservative Americans, just using their platform to call out their political friends seems cool.

I admit there are a lot of extreme voices on YouTube with a lot of hate speech. Yes, even on our side, we have people that cross the line to test the waters. People like to see how far the can go before action is taken. Google is hiring 10,000 more employees and implementing a

“We will continue the growth of our teams, with the goal of bringing the total number of people across Google working to address content that might violate our policies to over 10,000 in 2018,” YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki told Britain’s Daily Telegraph in an interview.

Wojcicki said that “bad actors” had used the video-sharing site to “mislead, manipulate, harass or even harm” others.

The announcement comes after British Prime Minister Theresa May put heavy pressure on the social media companies to remove radical content after a series of deadly terror-related attacks this year in the U.K.

“The tech companies have made significant progress on this issue, but we need to go further and faster to reduce the time it takes to reduce terrorist content online,” May said a speech to the United Nations in October, according to reports.

Wojcicki said they have developed a “computer-learning” technology that helps them to quickly identify and then remove radical content on a site that has hundreds of minutes of video uploaded each minute, according to the report.

I might be wrong, but Google did not say they are hiring 10,000 people to shut down YouTube channels, etc. in the USA. They will be working to address issues in other countries where anything goes speech is not allowed.

Google and YouTube aren’t common carriers, they’re platforms, and many of us need to understand that. You can use the internet without ever using Google or YouTube. They are not the end so if you want to be a lot more extreme than regular, and you know you are going to get flagged for YouTube, just have a backup in place, but do not complain. They built it, so they make their rules.
