Meredith Watson wants to be heard in a public forum about what happened between her and Lt Governor Justin Fairfax. She claims he sexually assaulted her and wants him to be impeached or would like him to resign. Fairfax claims his innocence.
Erika Smith, attorney for Watson said: “Apparently, the Virginia House Democratic Caucus believes that courageous victims of rape need to be heard — just not by them.” Smith continued: “Ms. Watson is counting on the General Assembly to do the right thing and hold hearings now. These nonstop efforts to duck their role is pure cowardice. Sympathy is welcome, but action is needed.”
Another accuser, Professor Vanessa Tyson is willing to go on the record in public to divulge what happened in her sexual assault claim but it seems the Democrats are playing the long game, as usual, letting the clock run out in the public eye, hoping it will all disappear.
“Apparently, the Virginia House Democratic Caucus believes that courageous victims of rape need to be heard — just not by them,” said Nancy Erika Smith, an attorney for accuser Meredith Watson. “Ms. Watson is counting on the General Assembly to do the right thing and hold hearings now. These nonstop efforts to duck their role is pure cowardice. Sympathy is welcome, but action is needed.”
Watson has called for state’s general assembly to hold a public hearing into both her allegations and those of Vanessa Tyson, who has separately accused the Democrat of rape during the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston. Fairfax has denied both allegations.
On Tuesday, the Virginia House Democratic Caucus reiterated calls for Fairfax to resign, but said they “believe that the law enforcement investigation should proceed unencumbered and outside of the political arena.”
“Ms. Watson & Dr. Tyson are courageous in coming forward to tell their stories. We respect all survivors and believe they should be fully heard. The allegations they have made against Lt Gov Fairfax are criminal in nature and we are treating them with the seriousness they deserve,” the statement from the Democrats said.

What more evidence of the depths of duplicity and hypocrisy of the Democrats is needed? Their silence regarding this matter is deafening. It is impossible to describe the extent of their depravity and despicable behavior regarding this matter.
Does anyone remember Keith Ellison accuser’s allegations were swept away as he became Minnesota’s, Attorney General?
As for the Democratic Party, it might not be pure cowardice, but it is sure pure political cover. Dems have to cover up the crimes that they commit so they can criticize the Republicans for the same crimes. They just want the news to die down on these claims then slowly it will disappear. I bet the same thing will happen in Jussie Smollett case in Chicago.
It’s becoming more compelling that a legislative forum should be seriously considered. We are actively working to develop that process and hope our Democrat colleagues will work with us moving forward. https://t.co/YMNudYkjrP

This might not be popular but it has to be said. Maybe it is time to apply the Statute of Limitations to these cases. It should not take decades to make this kind of accusation. It becomes a “he said – she said” thing and after decades how could this be defended? How could you find witnesses with a clear enough recollection of what happened? After decades could it be proven that it even happened? After decades how could it be established or disproved that this wasn’t consensual?
Waiting decades to say something is not justice, it is revenge.
Maybe both of these accusers need to press their case right in a courtroom in front of a jury and refuse any offer of a settlement. That might be the answer.
