Tonight, a Pennsylvania man is experiencing a heavy loss after accidentally running over his wife on Valentine’s Day, a few days ago.
I’m always careful when people or family members are around and I’m pulling in, backing up, turning around, whatever it is. I have talked to my daughters many times about walking in front and behind cars when the motor was running. Never assume someone is out of harm’s way unless you see them walk into the house, or they are in full view. I follow this always.
A husband is reeling from a tragic accident in the Lehigh Valley after police say he ran over his wife on Valentine’s Day.
The fatal incident happened around 3 p.m. in the 1200 block of Anna Marie Street in Palmer Township.
Police say 66-year-old Terry Mitchell let his wife Debra out of the vehicle. She then apparently fell to the ground, possibly due to a medical issue, while walking toward the back of the car.
Police say Debra was out of view of her husband and Mitchell ran over her as he backed out of the driveway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have ruled this tragedy an accident.

This happened in the town near us, not on Valentine’s Day, however. The husband uses a wheelchair, and they have a disabled son. She worked in a local school and was much loved. She was 66, lost her footing on the icy driveway as he was pulling the car out of the garage.
Even if this was an accident the husband will blame and second guess himself for the rest of his life. My heart goes out to him and their loved ones.
If this were a younger man (middle age or earlier), then it would reek of a guy seeking insurance money. But given their ages, the wife falling, the husband not seeing it and backing over her-rather believable.
They are about at that age when you start hearing about people running their cars into a business because they suddenly forgot which was the brake and slammed on the gas.
