Pres. Trump said initially he would not sign anything without wall funding.
The deal appears to include no money for a wall or steel barrier, but Pres. Trump said he hoped negotiations would continue and there would be an agreement on wall funding. If Democrats feel they won this round without giving up any money, they won’t do it later.
Trump claims the government will shut down on the February 15th or he will declare a national emergency if there is no deal for border funds after he has opened up the government for three weeks.
President Trump said Friday that he will support a short-term spending bill to re-open the government, temporarily ending the partial government shutdown that has dragged on for more than a month — despite a day earlier saying Republicans would not “cave” on his demands for funding for a wall on the southern border.
“I am very proud to announce we have reached a deal to end the shutdown and reopen the federal government,” he said to applause from gathered Cabinet members.
He said the deal would keep the government open for three weeks until Feb. 15 and that a bill would go before the Senate immediately. He made reference to his previous threats to declare a national emergency, calling it a “very powerful weapon,” but saying he didn’t want to use it. The deal appeared to include no money for a wall or steel barrier, but he said he hoped negotiations would continue to come to an agreement on wall funding.
“Walls should not be controversial,” he said.

Let’s be honest. If anything happened today, it was that Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats are emboldened to hold out again if the government is partially shut down because they were able to get it reopened without paying for the wall.
I know there will be conservative websites out there who will spin this as a win for Pres. Trump, and it’s not. Pelosi and her minion will begin their victory lap press conferences before Sunday or they will be on the Sunday morning TV shows smiling and smoking cigars.
