There are two staggering questions I have after learning about this proposed idea.
Why are Democrats angry President Trump was floating the idea of putting detained caravan members in Democratic Sanctuary cities and had they been putting detained caravan members in Republican-led cities in the past, to destroy the fabric of leaders doing things the right way?
The outrage from Democrats makes no sense. Those cities embrace and welcome illegal aliens. Wouldn’t sanctuary cities be the kindest and safest places to have these poor and desperate refugees await their asylum hearings?
Trump administration officials have proposed transporting detained immigrants to sanctuary cities at least twice in the past six months — once in November, as a migrant caravan approached the U.S. southern border, and again in February, amid a standoff with Democrats over funding for Trump’s border wall.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s district in San Francisco was among those the White House wanted to target, according to DHS officials. The administration also considered releasing detainees in other Democratic strongholds.
White House officials first broached the plan in a Nov. 16 email, asking officials at several agencies whether members of the caravan could be arrested at the border and then bused “to small- and mid-sized sanctuary cities,” places where local authorities have refused to hand over illegal immigrants for deportation. [Washington Post]
According to WaPo, The Department of Homeland Security turned down the proposal twice. The White House responded to the idea: “This was just a suggestion that was floated and rejected, which ended any further discussion.”
I am shocked Dems have a problem with this. Pelosi’s office responded: “The extent of this administration’s cynicism and cruelty cannot be overstated. Using human beings — including little children — as pawns in their warped game to perpetuate fear and demonize immigrants is despicable.”
Trump should publicly negotiate with sanctuary city mayors and ask how many of the illegals they would like to take for humanitarian reasons. Tell them he is willing to let them move into their cities. How many of these mayors would take him up on his offer?
