Democrats Turn On Ilhan Omar As She’s Accused Of Marrying Her Brother – ‘The President Won This One’

By Andrew S | July 18, 2019

One day after President Donald Trump addressed allegations that Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar married her own brother to skirt American immigration laws, top Democrats are turning on her and the rest of her “squad” in droves.

The Washington Examiner reported that various Democratic lawmakers spoke to CNN’s Jake Tapper on the condition of anonymity so that they could be candid, and they held nothing back when it came to Omar. Speaking off the record, the Democrats said that they were furious at Omar and her squad and that they believe Trump had won his war with them.

“The president won this one,” one House Democrat said. “What the president has done is politically brilliant. Pelosi was trying to marginalize these folks and the president has now identified the entire party with them.”

“The president’s words and actions speak for themselves,” a second House Democrat told Tapper. “We need to focus on the issues that got them here: jobs, health care instead of the issues the president brings up deliberately. Anything that takes away from bread and butter issues is playing into his hands.”

Other Democrats said that they were reluctant to defend Omar and her pal Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez because of threats of challengers against moderate Democrats and some of the controversial things they have said. One Democrat even said they were upset that Trump had a resolution condemning his “go back” remark but that the House Democrats could not even write a resolution “condemning anti-Semitism” by Omar.

“Everybody was completely outraged by what the president said,” a Democratic lawmaker said. “And everybody thought it was appropriate to criticize him but this was the first time the House has taken action to criticize him in any way, We couldn’t even bring ourselves to have a resolution exclusively condemning anti-Semitism uttered by one of those members [Omar] but we leapt to their defense here.”

In addition, the Democrats mentioned the fact that Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib introduced Tuesday in support of the boycott, divest, sanctions movement. The BDS Movement is notoriously anti-Israel, and has been described even by Nancy Pelosi as “bigoted.”

“So we’ll hear a tirade of attacks on Israel from the same group,” a third Democratic lawmaker said of the resolution. “Hopefully they won’t be anti Semitic.”

Another Democrat expressed fears about the bill coming “from someone with a history of anti-Semitism. So yeah, it’s challenging.”

Finally, the Democrats said they were upset about Omar’s squad constantly blasting other Democrats.

“I can’t tell you the number of Members who are angry and annoyed about them criticizing us,” the third member said, with the fourth adding that the group said they were “against human rights” for providing humanitarian aid to the border.

“We were there for them; they should stop attacking us,” the lawmaker added.

This comes after Pelosi tried to downplay the squad, saying they were “only four people” in the Democratic caucus.
