Democrats are showing just how afraid they are of a potentially strong Attorney General who follows the law.
The Daily Beast broke the story that a lawsuit was being filed by Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (D, Richard Blumenthal (D), and Mazie Hirono (D), against the appointment of Matthew Whitaker as the Acting Attorney General. It mainly focuses on the question of executive power and how much he can do and can’t.
Blumenthal released this statement which describes his issue with the appointment:
“Installing Matthew Whitaker so flagrantly defies constitutional law that any viewer of Schoolhouse Rock would recognize it. President Trump is denying Senators our constitutional obligation and opportunity to do our job: scrutinizing the nomination of our nation’s top law enforcement official. The reason is simple: Whitaker would never pass the advice and consent test. In selecting a so-called ‘constitutional nobody’ and thwarting every Senator’s constitutional duty, Trump leaves us no choice but to seek recourse through the courts.”
Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Adam Schiff already asked for Whitaker to recuse himself from making any decisions. Related: Schiff Threatens Acting AG Whitaker － Recuse Russia Investigation, Or We’ll Expose
Whitaker is not shy how he feels about Hillary Clinton and how she should have been prosecuted for her criminal acts.
President Trump defended Whitaker on Sunday during his sit down with Fox News Chris Wallace. Related: Wallace: If Acting AG Whitaker Curtails Mueller Investigation Would You Overrule; Trump Responds
The biggest question of all this is why Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein didn’t recuse himself from this investigation and why Democrats didn’t ask for his removal. He signed the FISA warrants based upon the FAKE dossier provided by the opposition party. I can see why he wanted to run the investigation to cover his tracks, but it is in no way ethical.
