Sen. Ted Cruz is looking to bring legislation to the Senate floor to stop the separation of illegal families at the border.
Before the Trump Administration’s zero policy, illegal parents and their children were normally released pending a court date and most times never to be heard of again. Now, the children go to a detention center, and the parents go to a jail cell.
Now Cruz wants more family holding areas and claims the entire asylum hearing process could take less than two weeks, That would take a massive ramp-up of resources. He suggests doubling the number of judges, but that is only the tip of the iceberg regarding what would have to be done.
The bill proposes that the number of immigration judges be doubled to 750, and requires asylum cases to be adjudicated in a two-week period. It also forbids the breakup of illegal immigrant families provided there is no record of “aggravated criminal conduct or threat of harm to the children.”
“All Americans are rightly horrified by the images we are seeing on the news, children in tears pulled away from their mothers and fathers. This must stop. Now,” Cruz said. “The answer is not what congressional Democrats are proposing: simply releasing illegal aliens and returning to the failed policy of ‘catch and release.’ Rather, we should fix the backlog in immigration cases, remove the legal barriers to swift processing, and resolve asylum cases on an expedited basis.”

There is one significant factor that not many are discussing, and it would make Cruz’s plan very difficult to implement. The US was not adequately equipped to deal with the asylum seekers before Trump’s new policy, and it is much less so given the much larger numbers of people who have to work through the system.
We don’t have the beds; we don’t have the courtrooms, we don’t have the infrastructure. The system was already overtaxed before Trump’s new policy, and there was no ramp up or build up in preparation for it.
Here’s an honest question. If Congress and the past presidents never enforced the last law that is being criticized now what makes him think they’ll implement this one proposed by Sen. Cruz? This isn’t about immigrant kids it’s about politics and nothing more. Enforce the law that’s on the books or repeal them and then replace them.
I’d like to see Pres. Trump educate the country on how the cheap labor corporate lobby is working with the radical open borders Democrat Party (and some RINOs) to import what they hope are cheap workers and future voters respectively. This is creating a tremendous burden for U.S. taxpayers and can also drive down wages. I’d recommend that he also says that importing people who are burdens on society is also further threatening Social Security.
Where is the outcry against people illegally entering the country and using their children as a way to exploit the system. Americans are not at fault for enforcing their laws. Stop coming into the Country illegally and this all ends.
