As Bernie Sanders’ campaign limps along on life support, it is obvious to many “Bernie Bros” that the DNC was never going to allow the socialist to clinch the Democrat nomination. All the second tier, so-called “moderates” (Amy Klobuchar, Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren, and Michael Bloomberg) were pressured to drop out of the race on the same week to allow Biden to consolidate power and take the nomination from Bernie.
Now the Bernie die-hards are seething.
Henry Williams, executive director of The Gravel Institute, told The New York Post, “We will never – NEVER boost or support Joe Biden or defend his abysmal record and terrible policy positions. We will tell people, as we always have, to vote their conscience and to make decisions based on the interests of all the world’s oppressed people.”
Williams also told the Post he expects a “massive exodus from the Democratic Party.”
Another high-profile New York City Democrat Socialist told the Post, “Biden is just an old white guy who inspires nobody. I sincerely think he will lose the electoral and popular vote and I know I won’t be voting for him in New York.”
The Bernie Bros have done this before. 12% of them supported Trump in 2016, according to the Cooperative Congressional Election Study, including 216,000 voters in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Trump’s margin of victory in those states was under 78,000. Additionally, countless Bernie fans sat out the 2016 election after they felt the Democrat nomination was handed to Hillary Clinton by the party insider’s “Superdelegates”, which carry far more weight than the votes of the party supporters at large.
DNC bosses have been encouraging Sanders to exit the race and allow the 77-year old Biden to focus his campaigning efforts on defeating President Trump. But Bernie supporters want the Democrat Socialist, who is 78, to stay in the race for as long as possible.

Bhaskar Sunkara, founder and editor of the socialist magazine Jacobin told The NY Post, “I think staying in the race is the responsible thing to do. He needs to challenge Biden on certain aspects of his rhetoric. He needs to accumulate clout and delegates to shape the Democratic platform and pressure the Biden campaign into adopting a more popular economic platform.”
Sunkara added that he will not be supporting Joe Biden under any circumstance this fall.
