[AUDIO] Border Agent: “We can’t keep up with this surge…growing faster than resources allowed”

It’s estimated that 30 percent of the radio traffic, taken from the Rio Grande Valley sector, is usually broadcast unencrypted, according to two border investigators who spoke on condition of anonymity.

During the span of 24 hours, Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley tracked more than 770 people who had already illegally entered the country and others who were attempting to cross from Reynosa, Mexico.

While some immigrants pay human traffickers to get them across the Rio Grande by raft, others attempt to swim the dangerous waters.

“We can’t keep up with this surge,” one Border Patrol agent said on condition of anonymity. “It’s growing faster than our resources allow us.”

The agent added that the audio is just another piece of evidence that the surge is becoming uncontrollable. The agent warned that it will only get worse when the weather cools down.
