Palm Beach Animal Care Director Diane Suave alert the viewing audience that 49 dogs had been found in 48 hours but they had to stop at a specific time due to Hurricane Irma winds.
It is not just the flooding these animals were subjected to it is the wind. How horrible this is for these animals. I wish the owners were found guilty of extreme animal abuse and treated to 5 years of agonizing punishment.
Whosoever is responsible for these animals being left out using the Hurricane as a death delivery system shouldn’t be allowed to have another pet. Why tie them up? At least let them have the option of trying to save themselves. They can’t climb the tree but maybe they could swim to safety. I wouldn’t have left them anyway. Hope they didn’t have kids, or they would probably be leaving them to fend for themselves.
And these aren’t pets who are just being left inside, Director of Animal Care Diane Suave said.
“They are left in a yard, in a pen they cannot escape from or tethered to trees or poles,” she said.
Palm Beach County Animal Care reports animal control officers have rescued 49 dogs and two cats in the last 48 hours.
This latest update comes just one day after local animal officials reported finding dozens of dogs chained to trees and parked cars.
“Even a tiny bit of sand can hurt an animal when it’s traveling through 100-plus mph winds,” Sauve said.
Animal control officers were slowly pulled off the road at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Sauve said once winds reach a sustained 35 mph, no officers will be permitted to rescue animals.
“We are asking the public, if it is safe, consider sheltering any animals you see left outside,” she said.
Both Sauve and State Attorney Dave Aronberg said they promise to prosecute anyone who left their animals outside to fend for themselves during Hurricane Irma.
The owners should be punished big time!
Can’t imagine what people are thinking, at least if they were untied they could crawl under a porch or something. More and more every day, I am having trouble liking the human race. There seems to be a large group of people who are the way people used to be and another group of people who place no value on life other than their own.
