Former President Donald Trump just took what many are interpreting as a thinly veiled shot at his successor’s son Hunter Biden when he said that the key to being a good parent is keeping your kids away from drugs and alcohol.

Hunter has been open about his years of substance abuse issues, detailing them in his new memoir “Beautiful Things.” Trump appeared to take a shot at him during an interview with Real America’s Voice anchor Gina Loudon.

“You have to talk to them, you have to be with them,” Trump said of how parents should deal with their children. “A lot people at a certain level, they have success, or they don’t have much time, whether it’s success or not success frankly, they don’t give their children enough time.”

Trump, who doesn’t drink and had an older brother who died of alcoholism, went on to stress the importance of keeping your children away from these temptations.

“You could have good children, but if they start with the drugs or the alcohol – and I always add cigarettes in there too, frankly – but I say no drugs, no alcohol, no cigarettes and I’ve said it for years to all of them,” Trump said.

Trump then said that he has stressed this so much with his five children that they start “going wild” in response to his fatherly wisdom.

“You know, they don’t like it,” Trump said. “But it really, so far, I think, has had a pretty good impact.”

Trump added that he’s personally seen “some really great children go bad” because they turned to drugs or alcohol.

“But, you know, I’ve seen some really great children go bad because they get hooked on drugs or alcohol, and you really just can’t let that happen, because once that happens, then you’re dealing in a new ballgame,” Trump said, according to The New York Post.

This comes after Hunter Biden lashed out at Trump and his boys in his new memoir.

“I became a proxy for Donald Trump’s fear that he wouldn’t be re-elected,” Biden wrote in excerpts of the book obtained by The Guardian.

“He pushed debunked conspiracy theories about work I did in Ukraine and China, even as his own children had pocketed millions in China and Russia and his former campaign manager [Paul Manafort] sat in a jail cell for laundering millions more from Ukraine.”

“None of that matters in an up-is-down Orwellian political climate,” he continued. “Trump believed that if he could destroy me, and by extension my father, he could dispatch any candidate of decency from either party, all while diverting attention from his own corrupt behavior.”

Biden even took hits at Trump’s children, saying, “I am not Eric Trump or Donald Trump Jr. I’ve worked for someone other than my father. I rose and fell on my own.”

Biden has previously admitted that he was only able to get on the Burisma board because of his dad’s connections.

“I don’t know. I don’t know. Probably not, in retrospect,” Biden told ABC News back in 2019 when asked if he would have obtained the job at the energy firm without his dad. “But that’s—you know—I don’t think that there’s a lot of things that would have happened in my life if my last name wasn’t Biden.”
