On Tuesday, Boston workers removed a statue that depicted former Pres. Abraham Lincoln standing over a freed slave who appeared to kneel at his feet. Democrats felt that the optics were bad for downtown Boston.
The Emancipation Memorial, also known as the Emancipation Group and the Freedman’s Memorial, had not been a problem for over 140 years. According to Fox News, “Freed Black donors paid for the original in Washington; White politician and circus showman Moses Kimball financed the copy in Boston. The inscription on both reads: “A race set free and the country at peace. Lincoln rests from his labors.”
As 12,000-plus had signed a petition demanding the statue’s removal, I wonder how many signed a petition to keep the statue? How many people live in Boston? Around 700,000? How many people found the statue to represent Abraham Lincoln’s accomplishments vs. those that depict something more sinister?
If they want to keep doing this, I feel there needs to be an immediate stop to providing public funding to all public art commissions immediately. Shame on the city of Boston for letting some art commission decide the fate of this statue. Put it on a ballot!
Too bad the artist didn’t have Lincoln’s hand facing upward. I would have clearly shown the intent of the artwork. If you look at the shackles’, they are broken, indicating he is free. But people will see only what they want to see, right or wrong.
Most, if not all, of these snowflake crybabies, don’t realize. Actually, Black slave owners (who were black) throughout Africa sold their own to the Spanish and Portuguese, who brought them to the Americas. People should look inward and know their own history before taking actions against individuals that ultimately didn’t stand for the original injustice.
When we censor our history by disguising our scars, we belittle the struggles our ancestors fought so hard to overcome. America doesn’t cower behind political correctness. It defiantly and courageously moves forward, with its history as a reminder of where we have been.
I guess White liberals cannot face the stain of slavery and embrace it as part of our rich history and journey to freedom for all. Instead, they what to whitewash it and hide it so that eventually they can say, what slavery? It never happened. It won’t be long now before that starts to happen. They already deny the Holocaust with all the proof there is. What can be said about slavery where no remnant besides statues exists?
What are they replacing the statue with, a BLM rioter with a brick in his hand? Or maybe a “protester” bashing someone’s head against the sidewalk? I hate to say this, but should we even be surprised at this point (not that I’m any happy about it)?
This is the same nation where people still voted for a child sniffing zombie after months when people of his ideology go out rioting and demonizing those who don’t believe in their dogma. It’s only natural. We live in a nation of morally bankrupt idiots.
Incidents like this with Lincoln and freed slaves were well documented. He always told them he was just a man, although to give freedom, he obviously would have seemed like a god to them. It’s a shame; nothing can stand anymore. By the way, in a racial case, the University of Tennessee said its goal is to have a campus where no one has a fear of another race — so, which race are they going to ban from campus?
