Meghan Markle is currently known to millions of people from all over the globe as the wife of Prince Harry, but just a few years ago, she was someone else’s wife entirely.
From 2011 until 2013, Meghan was married to Hollywood producer and talent agent Trevor Engelson, who has stayed remarkably tight-lipped about her over the years. Royal biographer Andrew Morton, author of the book “Meghan: A Hollywood Princess,” recently managed to track Engelson down, and he was shocked at how angry he clearly still was about the way his marriage to the future royal ended.
The U.K. Express reported that when Morton asked Engelson to comment about Meghan, he would only say, “I have zero to say about her.”
Morton would conclude that Engelson was still so hurt by the sudden way that Meghan ended their marriage that he can’t even stand to hear her name brought up around him anymore.
“It was such a surprise for Trevor that even at a distance of five years, he can barely contain his anger,” Morton explained. “The normally laid back New Yorker switching gear from his usual ‘hi bro, how’s it going?’ to a cold fury when her name comes into the conversation.”
This was backed up by Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., who said that while he has spoken to Engelson since the breakup, he added that he was specifically told not to bring up his half-sister.
“I talked to Trevor a couple of times on a project that I was trying to put together,” Markle Jr. recounted. “And he said, ‘I’ll talk to you, but just don’t ever mention her name because I will hang up on you. I don’t want to hear her name, period.’”
Meghan’s former best friend Ninaki Priddy also sympathizes with Engelson. She was best friends with Meghan for over twenty years and even served as her maid of honor in her first wedding, but after seeing how she ditched Engelson two years later, Priddy decided that she could no longer associate with someone like Meghan.
“All I can say now is that I think Meghan was very calculated, very calculated in the way she handled people and relationships,” Priddy said. “She is very strategic in the way she cultivates her friends. Once she decides you’re not part of her life, she can be very cold. It’s this shutdown mechanism she has. There’s nothing to negotiate, she’s made her decision and that’s it. The way she handled it, Trevor definitely had the rug pulled out from under him. He was hurt.”
