Following the grand jury’s explosive decision to not press charges against all three officers in Breonna Taylor’s death, calls to defund the police have reached a fever pitch.
But not everyone is onboard with this extreme measure, most notably former NBA star Charles Barkley.
During a sports segment on TNT, Barkley condemned this calls to “defund” the police, stating that there needs to be reform, but completely abolishing the police makes zero sense, especially since he believes that affluent white neighborhoods will most likely keep police on their payroll.
He really drove his point home when he bluntly stated: “Who are black people supposed to call? The Ghostbusters?”
He definitely makes a good point…

These are also Barkley’s thoughts on Breonna Taylor’s death:
God bless Barkley. He also is the only NBA commentator willing to point out that Brianna Taylor’s boyfriend fired first and hit a cop before they returned fire at him. The lack of basic factual understanding in this case is staggering. pic.twitter.com/2DFIs1XjNn

Barkley definitely isn’t that far off the mark.
The mayor of Portland actually just admitted that defunding the police “was a mistake” and that removal of police from black neighborhoods is wreaking havoc.
Since the city of Portland disbanded its gun violence reduction team July 1, shootings have increased and homicide hit a 30-year high. According to Turner, Portland Mayor and police commissioner Ted Wheeler has realized defunding the police force “was a mistake.”
Turner said people of color are most affected by this onset of violence. During a shooting in one neighborhood, he said, 150 rounds of ammunition were fired.
“One hundred and fifty rounds indiscriminately in neighborhoods, in the houses, in the places where people live, where people play, where people want to raise their children and families,” he said. “That is unacceptable.”
Politicians like Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. Kamala Harris of California continue to push the defunding of police forces, which Turner said further proves the movement is a stunt.
These calls for defunding police are nothing more than a political stunt.
Dems like Kamala Harris will regret the day they ever associated themselves with this radical ideology.
