If you have not worked it out in your mind yet, I live in the state of Maryland, and my governor is Larry Hogan.
Most of the state is filled with Democrats and leftists, but the governor is a Republican. Gov. Hogan has been trying his best to stabilize the state and prevent the spread of the coronavirus. He does not always agree with Pres. Trump, however, at this point, he is the leader of this state, and I appreciate his hard work and diligence.
On Monday, Gov. Hogan closed non-essential businesses at 5 PM EST as part of his plan to keep things in check and limit the COVID-19 exposure. CNN interviewed him on Tuesday morning in the way of possibly trying to show separation between him and the White House, but the governor stayed on message and showed America how much he cares for his state and how he wants to get this right.
Maryland public schools students have been out of school for almost two weeks because of the coronavirus pandemic, and if the governor has his way, the closure will last a little longer.
Maryland closed all public schools on March 12. While lessons were sent home in packets and online, no one will say for sure, even the governor, how long it’ll be before students are allowed to return.
“There’s not a decision at this point and time about what to do. A lot of it depends on how long we think this crisis is going to last, whether or they are going to be ready to go back to school anytime soon,” Hogan said. Tuesday.
The governor said state education officials are making the best decisions for Maryland.
“We don’t want to close down school for the rest of the year like some other states have done, but we don’t want to bring kids back if they’re not safe next week either,” Hogan said.
The governor said the call will not be his to make. Instead, it will be up to the state school superintendent and the Board of Education, all of whom met by telephone conference call Tuesday. One of the major concerns is how to develop home lessons online. [WBAL]
