The Oklahoma police chief who ordered five cups of Starbucks coffee and was shocked to see the word “Pig” written on the label is now asking Starbucks to have “mercy” and rehire the employee who they fired.
The initial incident happened on Thanksgiving when Police Chief Johnny O’Mara stopped by his local Starbucks to pick up coffee for his officers who were working the holiday. Upon receiving the cups he noticed the word “PIG” written on the labels.
O’Mara took a picture of the cups and wrote a Facebook post that in part read: “What irks me is the absolute and total disrespect for a police officer who, instead of being home with family and enjoying a meal and a football game, is patrolling his little town.”
It appears that an employee and the shift manager, Lola Price, were fired after the incident. The manager claims she was treated “unfairly.”
But now O’Mara is calling for the employee to get their job back. He’s appealing to Starbucks, asking them to show mercy and rehire her in an effort to create “unity.”
The Oklahoma police chief who blasted Starbucks after one of his officers received an order labeled “PIG” has met with the coffee chain to urge them to rehire the barista fired over the scandal, according to a report.
Kiefer Police Chief Johnny O’Mara said Tuesday that he met with Starbucks officials and “requested the young employee who was terminated be offered a position of employment,” news station KTUL reported.
“We start civility by forgiving minor indiscretions and using those moments to help people better themselves,” O’Mara said in a statement.
The location’s manager, who identified herself as Lola Price, also came forward, claiming she’d been fired in connection with the incident, despite not writing the labels on the cups, KTUL reported.
It’s unclear whether O’Mara urged the company to also have mercy on Price.
O’Mara said Tuesday that his department and Starbucks are “committed to using this regrettable incident as an opportunity to leverage our shared platforms to promote greater civility.” [New York Post]
